Are you a Netflix subscriber? Whether you plan on staying on board or cancelling in light of their price increase, today’s the day to make your move. As of tomorrow, September 1^st, Netflix’s monthly subscription rates are going up.

As it stands, subscribers can rent DVDs and have access to unlimited streaming on their TV lift cabinet for $9.99/month. After the price increase, the DVD rental and unlimited streaming will be split into two separate plans, each priced at $7.99/month. If you currently subscribe to their $9.99 plan, come tomorrow your monthly rate will increase to $15.98/month for both services. The price increase is Netflix’s way to shift the focus to unlimited streaming and away from DVD rentals by mail.

Current subscribers to the $9.99 monthly plan have several options. First, if you find yourself watching more DVDs than you are streaming content or vice versa, simply switch to either a DVD only plan or a streaming only plan. This way you save money and you can stick with the format that is most convenient for you. If you would rather keep your unlimited streaming and DVD rentals, you have no choice but to accept the price increase. Simply take no action and Netflix will automatically adjust your subscription to the new rates. Lastly, however unfortunate for Netflix, a popular option is to cancel with Netflix and explore alternative services. Whichever option you choose, the change goes in to effect tomorrow so be sure to act fast!

Apple, in the past few years has been rumored to be working on a new digital TV that will be based on iOS.   According to Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, “Apple is working on new technology to deliver video to televisions, and has been discussing whether to try to launch a subscription TV service, according to people familiar with the matter.”

Apple is scheduled to release as early as November, AirPlay functionality, which makes available streaming content from iOS-compatible devices such as iPhone, iPad, and IPod Touch. This means that TV Lift Cabinet Owners, can purchase a digital TV that acts and functions more like a computer and allows consumers to switch between different digital iOS devices quite easily.

As much as we don’t want summer to end, there are some signs that just can’t be ignored – the cooler temperatures, the first day of school and the start of football season. Only a few short weeks and the NFL season will kick off on September 8^th.  Fans of all ages each have their own way to celebrate the wins and lament the losses with their favorite team.

With the recent uproar surrounding the Netflix price hike, alternative streaming sources have made headway in the marketplace. One of the services that appears to be gaining momentum is Amazon.  A common concern among Netflix customers looking to jump ship is a lack of content with the alternatives.  Amazon’s announcement that they have reached 100,000 movies and TV shows to rent or buy could be just the boost they are looking for. With a large rent or buy library, there is still a question of whether Amazon will ever catch up to the number of available streaming movies and TV shows currently offered by Netflix. Regardless, the news of their expanding library could not have come at a better time.

In addition to the rent or buy service, Amazon now offers 9,000 movies and TV shows for unlimited streaming for your PC, tablet or TV lift cabinet. The amount of content may be significantly less than Netflix, however the cost of Amazon’s service at $79 per year comes in lower than Netflix’s $7.99/month.  If Amazon is able to continue expanding their library to include more and newer content, the consequences of the Netflix price increase could be more severe than anticipated.
