Where to Put the TV When You Have Windows and no Wall Space?

It can be a challenge to find the right spot for the television in today’s open-plan homes, condos and rooms, many with floor-to-ceiling windows. Sometimes it means you are covering up a beautiful view. You may have to place the TV against a wall, far from seating in the room, just to be near an electrical power source. For many, it’s a challenge.

Luckily, Pinterest has many ideas to help you place your television in a room with very little wall space and lots of windows. If you look a bit closer, you’ll see that several of the options include TV Lift Cabinets, allowing you to view entertainment on demand, and safely store your TV when it’s not in use. You are able to enjoy both the view and your flatscreen television at the same time.

Some people simply get away from any walls or windows and place the TV in the middle of the room, providing a divider for the room space. Again, many people choose a TV Lift Cabinet that is finished on all four sides, to help them achieve the desired impact in a room. Since all cabinets have multiple storage options, it’s easy to place all electronic components inside the cabinet so all cables and cords are contained. One tip might be to consider a floor-mounted electrical outlet, right under the cabinet. You can easily create an access panel in the bottom of the cabinet to easily access the power source.

So, it is possible to enjoy an open living space with lots of natural light and still enjoy all your entertainment options at the same time.

Where to Put the TV When You Have a Fireplace?

Mounting a TV over the fireplace is very popular in the United States, but it’s not always in the best interest of the electronics. Let’s face it, heat plus electronics is usually a bad idea. Most electronics are adverse to heat – and smoke is often worse (two elements usually found near fireplaces). The same film you find on your inside windows after burning wood in a fireplace also ends up inside any electronics nearby. You may not be able to see it, but it’s there because you can smell it. And as they build up, they can wreak havoc on the sensitive elements inside your flatscreen television.

Most electronic devices simply operate best and most reliably at lower temperatures. Beyond that, excessive heat can cause temperature-sensitive materials to degrade quickly, and conductive materials can even sprout little metal whiskers, causing shorts within the TVs circuitry.

Another concern we hear is that a TV positioned over a fireplace is at an uncomfortable viewing angle. Many TVs mounted over the fireplace will be above eye level when people are seated. Craning your neck into an unnatural position for an extended period of time is going to cause temporary discomfort, but doing so for even short periods of time, day after day, can have lasting effects, like chronic headaches.

One way to protect your TV and still enjoy your fireplace is to consider a TV Lift Cabinet. Many units are finished on all four sides, so you can place them anywhere in a room with a fireplace. Some people use the cabinets as room dividers; others place the units in the corner of a room. The televisions are protected from heat sources and always at the perfect height for people to view entertainment. And, when the televisions aren’t in use, they are safely stored within the cabinet to keep all the electronics safe from particulate sources.

Is Your Home New-Home-Buyer-Ready?

As the earth takes another trip around the sun in 2019, there are a few things that are certain. Life changes (graduation, marriage, babies and aging populations) will happen. And each time they do, people make live-changing decisions, including one of the biggest changes – moving into a new home.

While the pundits are all over the map on what the market will be like in 2019 due to new tax changes and interest rates, if you’re selling your home this year, it’s critical to make your home stand out from the crowd.

Here are a few things to help you get started.

1)   Remember the “Ds” – depersonalize and declutter.  If you’ve adopted the Condo method of decluttering, you’re well on your way to a cleaner home. But, if you’re like most people, you have personal items scattered throughout your home. You want people to be able to imagine themselves in this space, so it’s time to put away all the family photos, knick-knacks and items that are taking up valuable real estate. If you have a TV Lift Cabinet, it’s easy to stash all the electronic gadgets and games (along with your flat screen television). Check it out if you don’t have one.  It’s the perfect way to have all your entertainment items in one place – accessible when you want them – and when you don’t want anything out in the open.

2)   Consider renting a storage unit while your house is on the market. Less is more when you’re trying to sell your home. In addition to remembering the “Ds” – remove all unnecessary furnishings, rarely used kitchen gadgets, totes full of clothes, etc. If people see lots of piles and totes, they’ll think there isn’t enough storage for their things and move to the next house on their list.

3)   Clean out your closets and pantry. People will open doors and cabinets. Stashing items in closets isn’t an option when people are walking through your home. They will look in every nook and cranny. If you don’t need something, get rid of it or put it in storage.

4)   Make your house shine. Wash those windows. Vacuum or wash the floors. Dust every item that needs dusting. Place fresh flowers around your home. Bake some cookies. Every little thing matters when you’re trying to sell your home.

Create the Bedroom Oasis of Your Dreams

Have you ever wanted to escape to a sanctuary in your own home? Between the kids, the pets, the chores, and more, sometimes finding a moment of peace seems like a sweet dream. And considering the amount of time we spend trying to get to sleep (and actual sleep), it feels like the bedroom is the perfect place to find tranquility in your own home.

Let’s make 2019 the year of making your dreams come true – one room at a time. Let’s turn your bedroom into the sanctuary you’ve always wanted. It just takes a few simple steps.

1)   Treat yourself to new bed linen.  It might be time to retire the old duvet cover that’s coming apart at the seams. Look for soothing earthy colors and soft prints. Stay away from bright colors and prints that could leave you too stimulated to sleep.

2)   Hide your electronics and wires. One great investment would be to try an end-of-the-bed TVLiftCabinet. The beautiful cabinets not only provide safe, secure locations for your electronics and gadgets, everything disappears at the touch of a button when it’s time for soft slumber. And because it’s finished on all sides, you can place it anywhere in the room. There are many great cabinets to find the style that perfectly matches your bedroom oasis.

3)   It might be time for a new mattress. If you’re having troubling finding just the right spot to sleep, it could be your mattress may be the culprit. Most experts say it’s time to get a new mattress after 10 years or so. There are so many different styles that provide comfort and support.

4)   Adjust your lighting. Bright lights aren’t conducive to a good night’s sleep. Consider lower wattage bulbs and well-placed lamps to give you the ambience you’re seeking. Also consider adding curtains or shades to keep out the bright sunlight when it’s time to go to sleep.

These are just a few things to help you get started on turning your bedroom into a place you yearn to return to each night. I hope they work as well for you as they did for me. Sweet dreams.
