  1. Bedrooms: Not Just For Sleeping Anymore

Remember when bedrooms were just for sleep? Today many people are living in close quarters. From studio and one-bedroom apartments and condominiums, people are constantly seeking ways to live well in small spaces. Each space needs to serve a purpose and many people are looking for ideas to make bedrooms sanctuaries that not only provide the basic furnishings for sleep, but also provide space to work and relax. Contemporary bedroom furniture and space-saving designs help maximize space in small rooms to make them feel more spacious.

Living well in close quarters requires, among other things, efficient furnishings. Here are a few tips to consider if you’re hoping to make your bedroom a multi-purpose space that’s as functional as it is beautiful.

    1) Go vertical. If the ceilings are high enough, some people are adding lofts for beds so they can use the lower space for other living essentials. It’s an efficient way to maximize a small space, especially if you’re in a studio apartment.

  2. Condo time, and the living is easy.

According to the U.S. Census, more than 20% of the population (roughly 80 million people) choose a condo lifestyle in the United States. I’ve often wondered what the appeal of moving from a private single-family home to a condo might be, but after returning from a recent vacation to a Florida condo in The Keys, I completely understand. Sure, you give up some space, but the benefits of enjoying all the little luxuries that make a home a home were all there, plus a few new ones we hadn’t seen before.

First – cleaning is a breeze. The flooring, cabinets, furnishings and décor were designed for quick clean-ups. No need to lug around a large vacuum cleaner or spend hours polishing furniture. A quick dusting is all it took to keep things sparkling clean and fresh.

Second – no outdoor chores. Someone was always trimming trees and shrubs, mowing, cleaning pools, washing windows and more. All I can say is, “where do I sign up?”

Maximizing space in a condo is easy with smart furnishings. Maximizing space in a condo is easy with smart furnishings.

    And finally

  3. Creating the perfect bedroom sanctuary

Vera Wang once said, “My bedroom is my sanctuary. It's like a refuge, and it's where I do a fair amount of designing - at least conceptually, if not literally.” And she’s not the only one. More and more people are spending time, money and energy on turning a place of sweet dreams into a place of relaxation, peace and respite. It’s easier than you think.

First, make sure your bed is appropriately sized for your bedroom. It is the primary focal point of the room and should have space on either side to help people move freely in the space. A tented or canopy bed is a bit more luxurious than one with a wooden or upholstered headboard. For those who like to read or watch television in bed, soft headboards are just the ticket. Others prefer lots of pillows, hiding functional pillows behind more luxurious shams (or under the bed in containers).  Then, it’s a matter of your personal taste when it comes to linens that can help set the mood for the room. For respite, choose solid colors instead
