    Toy Story 3

And the winner is…well, Amazon.com. But the bestselling movies and video games of 2010 that flew off Amazon’s cyber shelves are interesting and diverse ones. Read on to find out which ones made the cut and let us know if you watched or played any of these on your flat-screen TV or gaming console. While Amazon’s bestselling product (ever) was the third-generation Kindle, and the bestselling and most wished for book to go with the e-reader was Steig Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, when it came to movies, the top-grossing movie of 2010 was Toy Story 3. It was also the most popular movie gift on Amazon. In the theaters, Toy Story 3 grossed $109 million its first weekend, which is the best start for any of Pixar’s 11 features. 2. Video Chat from the Couch with Microsoft’s Kinect

Very likely, Microsoft beat its own quota for selling the Kinect this Christmas shopping season. Planning to sell five million units before December 25th, it is estimated that sales actually topped six million units. Many customers even found the Kinect a hard item to locate in stores, but those who opened them on Christmas morning were likely spending the rest of the day moving and grooving to games like Dance Central or playing with their new pets on Kinectimals.

But now that the holidays are gone, and visiting families have traveled back to their homes (and work), the Kinect is giving people the opportunity to reconnect via video chat from the comfort of their own couch. Utilizing Microsoft’s Windows Live Messenger and an active Xbox LIVE Gold membership, users can initiate a video chat with any one or more than 300 million Messenger users worldwide, which means the other party does not have to have a Kinect too, as long as they have a webcam and a computer with Internet access.

  5. Mashable.com Polls Readers for their Tech-Related New Year’s Resolutions

Recently, Mashable.com launched a user poll asking the question, “What’s your tech-related resolution for the new year?” And the answers ranged from “Getting a new Android phone” to “Leveraging technology to get in shape”. Respondents could select as many resolutions as they wanted and the results (so far) are interesting. The poll is still live and receiving votes.

But before we recap the results, it’s interesting to note some background information about New Year’s Resolutions. Resolutions have been around for about as long as the New Year holiday has, which is really since 153 B.C., when the mythical king of early Rome, Janus, started appearing at the head of the calendar.

It wasn’t until Julius Caesar started the 365-day solar calendar in 46 B.C. that we started celebrating New Year’s Day on January 1. January is named after Janus, who was a two-faced deity who could look back on the past and into the future at the same time. With this symbolism, various cultures adopted ways to celebrate

  8. Nintendo DS on Your Home TV?

    Nintendo DS

Some of you may have received a new Nintendo DS handheld gaming device for Christmas this year, and though you’re probably already in tune with whatever game or games you got with it, you may be wondering if it has any other unique capabilities.

One of its features is that people can watch recorded TV shows and movies on the Nintendo DS by placing them on a MicroSD card and loading the card into a M3 DS Simply adapter. After a quick software setup on the Nintendo DS, you’ll be watching your favorite movies in astoundingly great quality in no time. Anytime you’re ready for a different movie or show, just pop it on your MicroSD card and back into your adapter and viola!

While this is great for portability and convenience, many Nintendo DS owners wonder if they can save their eyesight by playing their favorite DS games on their home TV by connecting the two devices. And while there is no “official” way to do so, some have had success by sliding a screen adapter over the DS and connecting
