  4. Product Focus of the Week: Kensington TV Lift Cabinet

Our beautiful Kensington TV Lift Cabinet is a favorite among city dwellers and sea captains.  Finished in a warm brown, this traditional cabinet is slightly narrower than most TV lift cabinets at a depth of 22 ¾”, making it a great solution for tight spaces.  We recently had ship captains interested in this cabinet due to the traditional look and the ability to fit through their 24” hallways.

The Kensington features an integrated heavy-duty, rack and pinion drive TV lift mechanism that silently lowers the TV into the cabinet.  The maximum TV dimensions are 51-3/4"W x 5"D x 32 3/4"H.  An infrared relay system is pre-installed within the Kensington.  Our IR system allows TV viewers to operate their AV components behind closed doors.

The Kensington offers plenty of storage.  Three cabinet drawers open up to reveal adjustable shelving.  This space is perfect for storing books, AV components and other collectibles.  The center drawer features interchangeable wood and speaker

  5. Comcast Launches Online Streaming Service: Xfinity Streampix

We knew it was only a matter of time before cable companies offered video streaming services.  As cable prices skyrocket, Americans have been turning to online video streaming companies to meet their television needs.  Online video streaming companies such as Netflix have been stealing thousands of customers from cable companies forcing the cable giants to reconsider their service packages.

To meet this new challenge, Comcast has launched its own online video streaming service called Xfinity Streampix.  This new subscription video service will offer customers the opportunity to view television shows and movies on demand.  Right now, Comcast is working with Warner Bros., Sony and Universal for content deals.  Comcast customers can add Xfinity Streampix service for an additional $4.99 each month.  Customers can stream Streampix videos to their TV lift cabinets, computers or mobile devices.

Unfortunately, this service is currently only being offered to existing Comcast customers.

  6. Dish Network Revenue Numbers Up, Subscriber Numbers Down

In the wake of Netflix’s steady demise, competitors are reaping the rewards. Dish Network is among the group of Netflix competitors who took advantage of the opportunity to profit off of Netflix’s missteps.

While Dish Network has not struck back in terms of numbers of subscribers, their revenue has jumped substantially. Since this time last year, Dish Network’s revenue has grown by 12.3%, or $3.6 billion. This increase is largely contributed to Dish’s acquisition of Blockbuster earlier this year. Blockbuster was long struggling in the wake of internet movie giants like Netflix. Dish Network’s acquisition allowed Blockbuster to transition to the future of movie renting and streaming. Blockbuster Movie Pass allows subscribers to stream movies and TV shows to their TV lift cabinet as well as receive DVD by-mail service. The program is only available to Dish Network subscribers. Dish had hoped that Blockbuster Movie Pass would increase revenue and also draw in new subscribers who were looking

  7. Season Premiere Week in Review

Okay TV Lift Owners, the numbers are in following last week’s onslaught of season premieres. Variety reports that CBS and Fox are on top, thanks to new shows like ‘The X Factor’ and perennial favorites such as ‘The Big Bang Theory’. For the first time, Fox won out with the adult 18-49 demographic.  The network received big gains with comedy “The New Girl” while “Glee” countered with a disappointing showing, dropping out of the top ten.

The bottom two networks were ABC and NBC, third and fourth place respectively. “Modern Family” on ABC dominated mid-week. NBC faltered with its best results coming in during “The Office” on Thursday night.

Of note is the success of comedies so far this season. Variety’s article showed that 9 of the top 10 shows last week were comedies. This result does not include sports. For the record, Sunday Night Football was the number two most watched program last week.

All in all, this season of network TV is shaping up to be better and watched by more people than
