  1. How Much TV is Too Much for a Room?

Believe it or not, it is
possible to buy a TV that’s just too large for a space. While some may believe
that bigger is always better, most people understand that there are limits.

How much TV is too much for a room?

    There is a direct
correlation between your screen size and how far away your seating is located.
Some entertainment experts say that a viewing angle of 40 degrees creates the
best viewing experience. An easy way to determine the screen size is to
multiply the seating distance by .84 to get the recommended screen size.

So, if you sit around 8 feet
from your TV, your screen size would be around 80 inches diagonal for that
distance. That translates to approximately a 50-inch TV. An online consumer
    site, CNET,
recommended no closer than 1.5 times the screen diagonal (or .667 times your
seating distance), which allows for a larger screen.

    In addition to distance from
the screen, the experts also looked at resolution and how much space the TV
takes up in the room. If you’re sitting too close to a large TV, you may

  2. How to Measure TV Size for Cabinet

Did you know a 75-inch television isn't really 75 inches wide? The size is really the diagonal screen measurement from the top left corner of the screen to the bottom right corner of the screen.

So – how do you measure your TV properly if you want to place it in a cabinet?

First, get out your tape measurer.  You need to measure the horizontal width, vertical height and depth from edge to edge, including the frame around the screen.

Start with the depth.  Measure from the front to the back – but don’t include any stand it may be on.

Then, move on to the width. Measure horizontally from the outer edges (left to right)

Finally, measure vertically, from top to bottom (always including the frame)

  4. Where to Put the TV When You Have a Fireplace?

Mounting a TV over the fireplace is very popular in the United States, but it’s not always in the best interest of the electronics. Let’s face it, heat plus electronics is usually a bad idea. Most electronics are adverse to heat – and smoke is often worse (two elements usually found near fireplaces). The same film you find on your inside windows after burning wood in a fireplace also ends up inside any electronics nearby. You may not be able to see it, but it’s there because you can smell it. And as they build up, they can wreak havoc on the sensitive elements inside your flatscreen television.

Most electronic devices simply operate best and most reliably at lower temperatures. Beyond that, excessive heat can cause temperature-sensitive materials to degrade quickly, and conductive materials can even sprout little metal whiskers, causing shorts within the TVs circuitry.

Another concern we hear is that a TV positioned over a fireplace is at an uncomfortable viewing angle. Many TVs mounted

  5. Building Your Own TV Lift

    360 Degree Swivel Mechanism

There has been an increase over the past few years in the popularity of DIY and home designed devices or “hacks,” and home entertainment is often the home of these private innovations. At TVLiftCabinet.com, we try to offer a TV lift cabinet for every possible implementation or use, but sometimes people just want the bare bones of a TV lift to customize into whatever project they have in mind. For this, we sell bare mechanisms, designed for the minimalist or DIYer in mind.

Our lifts, just like our TV lift cabinets, are designed to rigorous standards and tested for 20+ years of use and are 100% UL recognized (the gold standard in safety), making sure that your TV won't take an unfortunate spill. In addition to being extremely safe and easy to operate, our TV lifts are ultra quiet (due to a self lubricating gear system) and are set up easily with only two bolts. Typical installation is somewhere around 10 minutes. Built in safety features include surge and thermal

  6. Making Your Small Room Feel Bigger

    Harbor Rich Tobacco TV Lift

The growth of the market for flat-panel TVs in the last several years is a testament to the fact that many people want to enjoy the benefits of having a large TV, but would prefer not to use the limited space available. In many cases, people will spend the extra cost to get a more compact TV just to maximize the space in their den or living room. Having a large TV, flat panel or otherwise, is a space commitment that is well worth it when watching the Big Game, but the rest of the time, the living room can be cramped.

TV cabinets used to be designed around this problem, especially the fact that most viewers don't want to have to look at an unsightly box whenever they are not actively watching television. Old TV cabinets were designed to hide the TV as well as to fit in with the décor of the room, and modern cabinets should do the same. Now that full-depth TVs are the exception rather than the rule, TV lift cabinets make much more sense than traditional TV cabinets.

  7. Get Rid of Cables from Your TV Entertainment Center

Remove the mess of cable wires with a TV Lift

Here at TV Lift Cabinets, the main priority of design is functionality, followed very closely by elegance. Oftentimes, the mechanical or sterile look of metal or particle board completely destroys the style of a room, despite the time and energy put into lighting and decorations. A big factor in the entertainment center as an eyesore is the ever-present nature of tv cables. Many people consider wires to be unavoidable. They think you simply have to deal with wires if you want to have a TV in your family room. However, our TV Lift Cabinets are designed to conceal wires so that the aesthetic of our furniture is maintained. Many of our cabinets have vintage or retro styling that would be marred by unsightly cables.

In addition, many of our cabinets are specifically designed to accommodate your speakers or soundbar, including running the wires between external audio devices and your receiver or television. Many even have interchangeable

  9. Add Space to Your Bedroom with a TV Lift

Many bedrooms and living spaces are barely large enough to contain the basic necessities of sleep (such as a bed and dresser), but most people enjoy having a TV in their bedroom for watching in bed. In many cases, people would prefer not to have to switch to a smaller bed just to fit a TV stand in their bedroom. This problem is solved by adding a TV lift cabinet or foot-of-the-bed tv lift. These pieces of furniture can really add depth and openness to a room when the TV is stored and make the process of bringing it out and putting it away as simple as possible.

Though using a TV lift cabinet is a great solution for a small bedroom, even in bedrooms with plenty of space, using a TV lift can enhance the décor of your room by hiding an unsightly TV. Many people with large bedrooms are happy to have a TV there from time to time without having to look at it when it’s not in use. A TV can oftentimes become the focal point of a room inadvertently.
