  1. Mitsubishi Offers a Fix for Dated 3-D Samsung TV Sets

    Mitsubishi 3-D Starter Pack

Both Mitsubishi and Samsung have been producing 3-D-ready TVs for years. However, back when they first starting making and selling their 3-D TVs, the 3-D technology was much different than it is today. The result was that their TVs simply no longer worked with today’s technology, so the companies had to send out upgrade kits to be compatible.

Late last year, Mitsubishi released an upgrade kit for its DLP TVs, which is a technology no longer used by any TV manufacturer except Mitsubishi. These DLP TVs are adequate in quality, but they are often much thicker than today’s flat-screens. Their two-feet deep sets are no good for placement in TV lift cabinets. However, the company believes in the technology and will, in 2011, be releasing a 92-inch 3-D TV in DLP for under $6K.

But back to the upgrade kit, the 3D Starter Pack. The pack will work for both Mitsubishi and Samsung 3-D-ready DLP TVs (not including plasma models), and it comes with two pairs of active-shutter 3-D eyewear, a 3-D emitter,

  2. Go Blu-ray, Reviews for Top Sellers

Since the inception of Blu-ray technology, which was designed to supersede the DVD format, Blu-ray players have hot sellers in 2010. With the capability of holding 50 GB of data per disc, six times more than a standard DVD, Blu-ray movies set themselves apart by having countless extras and behind-the-scenes commentaries. By June of 2009, there were more than 2,500 Blu-ray movie titles available for purchase in the United States and Canada. And there will be many more to come, especially since their 1080p resolution and deeply rich colors put DVDs to shame.

Now that Christmas has passed, you may find yourself the new owner of a Blu-ray media player for your TV lift cabinet, or find yourself standing in line to return your DVD player for a Blu-ray player. In any case, you’ll want to know which Blu-ray players have earned their places at the top of the list for 2010. So here they are!

  3. Samsung TV Apps Reach One Million Downloads

    Samsung Apps

In early December, Samsung hit a remarkable milestone with its apps marketplace on its HDTVs. Since they became available to consumers in March 2010, one million applications have been downloaded. And while there are not nearly the number of apps available as there are for the iPhone (134k+) or Android (100k+), reaching one million downloads for only 200 available Samsung apps means that sales are strong of Samsung HDTVs and that users are liking what they find.

According to Samsung, the most frequently downloaded apps include Hulu Plus, ESPN Next Level, CinemaNow and Texas Holdem. Other popular apps include MLB.TV, Vudu and Netflix. More than half of Samsung’s 2010 line of HDTVs are app-capable, and company resources say they expect more than 6.5 million app-capable units be sold before the end of the year. And by 2012 that number could grow to 20 million.

Samsung’s major competitor in the smart TV market is Vizio, which also offers its own line of app-capable TVs and line of apps. Vizio

  4. 3D TVs on Everyone’s Holiday Wishlist

Likely to be the hottest TV gift this holiday season, 3D TVs are steadily rising in popularity and in technological capabilities. Couple that with a steady drop in prices, what more could customers ask for?

As the media entertainment envelope continues to be pushed, moving from HD to Blu-ray and now 3D, the movie industry will continue to play to the highest bidder, and right now that’s the 3D niche. In 2010, there were 25 3D movies released in theaters, and all of those, of course, were or will be released in 3D DVD versions. In 2011, the number of 3D movies is expected to top 30.

And by now everyone has heard that Lucasfilm Ltd. will be rereleasing the entire Star Wars saga in 3D, which will of course be followed by 3D DVDs. In Europe, Sky 3D is the world’s first full-time 3D TV station, which brings sports, movies and entertainment to its customers in 3D 100 percent of the time.

Many of the 3D TV holiday specials this year will feature TV kits that include free 3D-viewing glasses (required

  5. Smart TV Market on Its Way

With the announcement earlier this month that Samsung is eyeing Google’s Android operating system for producing web-connected TVs, a new market for smart TVs will soon reach a peak, says a chief of Samsung’s television division.

Samsung Electronics became the world’s largest technology company in the beginning of 2010, so they certainly have the ability to drive new markets. The company estimates that the smart TV market will peak around 2012, only a couple years away.

With all the new hyper-convenient TVs that will begin to pop up, it will be another opportunity for ImportAdvantage to showcases its convenient and quiet pop-up TV cabinets, which are also “smart” in that they operate with a one-touch remote control.

ImportAdvantage always keeps up with the latest TV technologies, but the company shows its customers time and again that regardless of how advanced electronic technologies become, a quality handcrafted TV lift cabinet is the only way to keep them safe, secure and so easily accessible.
