Over the past several months, executives at Sony have found themselves in hot water over a series of security breaches in its PlayStation network. While very popular for their flat panel TVs in TV lift cabinets, Sony is also a gaming giant. In April, a severe security breach allowed hackers to obtain personal and credit card information for millions of Sony users. Despite the massive blow to their reputation, Sony CEO Howard Stringer remained positive at the recent shareholders’ meeting.

Boasting that approximately 90% of users have returned to the service, Stringer told the crowd that brand perception is improving. According to Yahoo News, the attack cost Sony nearly $173 million. Sony’s service gradually reconnected in May, offering users a ‘Welcome Back’ package and a $1 million identity theft insurance policy for the next year.

Mitsubishi, a small-scale player in the TV manufacturing world, is ready to unveil their 92-inch TV to consumers. Yes, you read that right – 92 inches. First introduced in January, this gigantic set uses rear-projection technology and is capable of displaying 3D content. Such a huge TV is a deviation from what the leading manufacturers are introducing to the market. Not only that, but rear projection?

Rear projection TVs aren’t exactly commonplace these days. Not only do 92 inches make this TV way too big for a TV lift cabinet, the 15 inch depth is in stark contrast to 1-inch deep flat panels. Large TVs are popular but once the size increases past 65 inches, there is a steep drop off in sales. Although these super-large TVs may not be the most popular with consumers, they are profitable for the manufacturer and cater to consumers with a need for a huge screen - think media rooms and the like.

Comcast TV lift owners, did you know you that very soon you will be able to make Skype video calls on your TV?  According to the NY Times, Comcast and Skype announced last Monday that they would be working together to provide Comcast customers the ability to video chat on their TV sets from the comfort of their homes.

For those whom are not familiar with Skype, it is a wonderful free internet based service that allows families and friends to video chat all over the world.   However, this free platform may disappear.  Microsoft announced last month that it agreed to acquire Skype.  With Microsoft and Comcast now leading the new wave of communication, it will be interesting on what the new pricing structure will be.

For the time being though, Comcast will be conducting a trial run to select Comcast customers offering Skype-on-TV.  Skype-on-TV customers will be able to make Skype calls and send instant messages while watching TV.  In the long run, Comcast will provide video cameras

David Katzmaier, Senior Editor at cnet.com, recently posted an article that will help TV lift cabinet owners in selecting their new flat screen TV.   Katzmaier broke down how the Panasonic TC-PVT30 compared versus the Samsung PND8000 in the following categories; best picture quality, best design, best features, best value, and his personal opinion of the overall best TV of 2011.  Below is a summary of his findings.

Best picture quality: Panasonic VT30
The VT30 has superior black-level performance and shadow detail, as well as arguably better video processing. The Samsung wins for color accuracy, 3D performance, and bright-room picture. The two were quite close in nearly every picture quality characteristic I test, and both TVs rightly earn their performance scores of 9, but the Panasonic's picture is still better overall in my opinion.

If you’re interested in the new 3D TV technology – listen up! Although it may not be an ideal candidate for your TV lift cabinet, the new Sony VAIO L-Series really lives up to its “all-in-one” description.

According to Engadget.com, the desktop PC/TV features a full 3D HD 24” LED touch screen. The system is capable of playing Blu-ray discs, music in surround sound, connecting to the internet and TV and displaying photos. Not to leave the gamers out, games can be played in 3D and the system can also connect to PlayStation 3 via HDMI.

Aside from all the amazing technical features, the L-Series is wall-mountable and includes a wireless mouse and keyboard.  One pair of active shutter 3D glasses is also included as part of the $1,420 price tag. If you’re in the market, pick one up when the L-Series hits stores on July 13^th.

1.)    According to CNET.com and a CNN report, Twitter purchased TweetDeck for $40 million yesterday on May 23th.   The deal has not been officially announced, but a purchase agreement was signed.

2.)    LIN TV Corp. announced it will carry Bounce TV, an over-the-air broadcast television network for African-American audiences, in five markets when the network launches this fall. Bounce TV will be seen on LIN TV Corp. stations in Indianapolis, Hartford/New Haven, Norfolk, Dayton and Mobile/Pensacola as part of the multi-year agreement (this information provided by tvtechnology.com)

I recently bought a condo and am now looking for reasonable cable options.  Since I am living by myself, I do not have the luxury of splitting the cable bill and am looking for the most affordable option.

Through my research, I have discovered that all the big name cable providers are offering deals on cable packages.  On first glance, you may think the deals are good.  However, take a look at the fine print.  These deals are not good at all!  This is what I discovered.

AT&T which provides DirectTV, had a deal offering basic cable for as low as $29.99 for 12 months.  However, if you read the fine print you discover you must sign into a two year contract.  This means that after the first year, your cable bill nearly doubles to rates as high as $54-$60, and this is just for basic cable.  Imagine how much your bill would increase for add-ons!  Comcast and Verizon are also guilty of doing this same sneaky sale tactic.  Which leaves many consumers such as myself without an
